I've played this game pretty much non stop since I discovered it years ago. Played pretty much every mod and modlet possible on this game and even learned some coding and bought a PC because of how much I enjoyed the type and feel of this game. Unfortunately its not where I would think it would be at this point. They've had years of time to build and listen to the communities and modders feedback. Do you think the we want to ruin your game? No, we all give feedback because we want it to do well so we can play a polished open world zombie game that (was) unlike another game I had played. With Games like "Human Host" and "Vein" in their infant stages the devs better get their head out of the sand before the modders of this game get a good hold on them and the devs end up working with, instead of against the player and modder community. The best new content Ive seen the devs add have been rip offs from modders. Overhaul mods are the only thing that has kept me playing this game. Undead legacy, Ravenhearst, War3zuk, Darkness falls, imagine if these were all sliders in the game. A lot of these people do these for free or through a donation system. Why make it hard? Pay the modders off, have your team help them optimize the mods and roll them out in high quality form as cheap DLC and collect the money. Whats so hard? Maybe im ignorant to the process who knows if I am, inform me then. I know my comment like many others sounds like Im beating a dead horse, the problem is that its a zombie horse and keeps coming back because it never learns its lesson.
Honestly, if you've never played it, it's a really good survival game. It has interesting mechanics, crafting, base building, biomes, enemies, bosses and progression. That said, if you, like me, have played it in very early beta and now tried the latest release you might be disappointed. I think the whole idea of traders puts it too much on-the-rails. You're not really exploring now, and you're not really excited for any particular items, you're not even looking for anything in particular. You're just running back and forth completing quests, reading books and buying/crafting whatever you need. In earlier versions finding town was cool, finding e.g. hardware store (so you can maybe find a wrench) was cool, now you'll just sort of play for 30-ish hours running between trader and the location he picks and that's about it. In my opinion, the whole trader thing should work differently, they should give you precondition e.g. Get a base / get a vehicle / get desert gear AND then you'll get a job, one complicated quest, also with tiers. Maybe occasionally you could discover some item that trader might want (same exact supplies, not in every location, hidden still, but you have to find them yourself, then you can bring it back). Also, when starting the quest, for it to refresh entire location ruins immersion. The most efficient way is, in fact, to never go to any locations yourself, just do quests and double-clear every single place, once before starting the quest and once after. That, naturally, ruins the whole experience, however. Basically it sort of killed exploration and something needs to be done to bring it back. 7/10
7 Days to Die: 12 Years in Early Access Regret: 58% (my wooden fortress has been eaten 14 times) The idea is great. Every seventh night the zombies come in hordes, and you have to be ready. In reality, I spent the first six days building a fortress out of wood and the seventh night watching zombies chew through it like cardboard. The game spent more than a decade in early access, long enough for a kid to go from preschool to high school while waiting for 1.0. It's clunky and ugly, but surviving blood moon with your friends is a blast.
Great game to play with a group of friends. This game's sandbox nature means that you will have a lot of ways to approach your character build, weapons you use, the way you craft, get food, create a base, make money and so much more. Because of its nature you end up using a lot of hours adventuring, testing and honing your skills. You get hooked quite easily even if you don't have experience from games of its genre. But once the honeymoon is over you will start to realize that the game has at the same time a lot of content and not enough of it. You start to realize how most cities look the same, how different biomes look similar, how the cities are empty with nobody to interact with, how quests are all the same. However my personal gripe with the game is the progression. First two Biomes have really low loot/game stage which determines what kind of loot you find, so you don't find any higher tier weapons, but once you go to any of the last three the stage is cranked to "over 9000" and you end up batting endgame loot away with a stick. You can easily end up with the best weapons of the game in under 7 days which is very counter intuitive and completely ruins the late game as well as defeats the purpose of learning to craft weapons. Still recommending highly to people who have never played this game.
Well, I was big fan of this game, but I'm a little tired and want rest for while (Not quit), I said some problems about current version (4x4 Truck's bug, Drone's horrible pathfinding...etc) and some advice on forum. Then they just deleted my post and gave me a warn. Well, if this is how TFP treat their players, they think player's advice is not important at all, that's ok, I'll totally stop record and upload 7DTD video. I'm disappoint and upset to TFP. My yt channel got banned on May, that time I was working on all kinds of weapon build walkthrough on Insane, then my channel got banned by yt, then I tried to upload on X, now TFP not allowed player give them advice. That's fine, at least I know TFP and yt is the same, they can't listen any advice, just do what they want, or now every game company think player is not important, they create game for player, so game company is the King, they can say "Aren't you thankful?" to players. Thank you, TFP, you really totally let me lost interest to this game. New: TFP also deleted my post on their forum, at least I realized TFP TOTALLY DON'T CARE THEIR PLAYERS AT ALL. Most time in forum, you can see that's more like you can only say good things to TFP, you're not allow to say anything bad to TFP, if you do it, they'll delete your comment and warn you. BTW, if you still want to buy 7DTD, please check their 7DBM, they still can fix problem, add single campaign with simple story, add AI in skirmish, not pure PVP, then they think nobody like PVP, so we'll not update anymore. Then they also can add 7DBM's art into 7DTD, but they didn't. Honestly, I feel every time when I spend lots time on something, result will not be good. Will looking for new games to record and upload, or totally give up. I have no idea. Then they did same thing again, so I guess I have no more reason to think TFP cares player at all. TFP has time to design new clothes to sell, check forum and delete comment they don't like everyday, but has no time to make their promise, fix bugs. To people said I'm lying, here's screenshots. https://x.com/srwfenix/status/2095947281522663635/ https://x.com/srwfenix/status/2101675006610813096/ Well, saying people lie is easy, because don't need to prepare anything, only need to use finger point at someone, said that guy lies, then that guy needs to take screenshots, and other things to prove. But most time people only listen what they want, so even in the end that guy is right, but doesn't matter, people already think that guy is lying and will never trust that guy. You only need to throw dirt to others, then say that person never clean up, most people will believe what they saw, then will not change their mind easy, I don't know when this world become like this, they don't need result, they already have answer in their mind, even others prove that real result, nobody cares. This is how this world works, sadly but true. BTW, few days ago, I saw this. https://x.com/Z370_tamotsu/status/2103859676723208459
I've been playing this since Alpha, when dead zombies left gore piles behind, and have most certainly gotten my money's worth over the last 10 years or so. But, in it's current state, I can't say I would recommend this any more. While it is still a survival base-builder, we need to be honest about one thing: This is no longer a zombie game. Zombies should not have advanced pathfinding. Zombies should not instantly be able to calculate the weakest, least resistant route through defense. There should not be hidden triggers that spawn ambushes surrounding the player, completely negating stealthy gameplay in buildings. There should not be a gameplay meta, shoe-horning players into spamming trader quests for needed equipment and magazines to progress.
I almost can’t believe I’m writing this review. I have been playing **7 Days to Die since ALPHA 7**. I was there when this game was barely anything compared to what it is today. I was there when The Fun Pimps were digging into their own pockets, trying desperately to get people to give their game a chance, asking the community for support and trying to build something from the ground up. And I supported them. I fell in love with the idea behind 7 Days to Die. I saw the potential in it when it was still rough, unfinished, buggy, and nowhere near the game it eventually became. I put countless hours of my life into it. I promoted it. I talked about it. I recommended it to friends and other players. I defended it through years of development and changes because I genuinely believed in the game and the people making it. That is exactly why I am so unbelievably pissed off writing this now. After all these years, I am finally DONE. Not "taking a break." Not "maybe I'll come back next update." **DONE. Uninstalled. Finished.** And I'm uninstalling it with one gigantic middle finger pointed directly at what The Fun Pimps have turned this into. The Twitch integration situation was already a massive blow for me. Twitch integration was, by far, one of the most entertaining features I had ever experienced in this game. It added something completely different and made playing with a community absolutely hilarious and unpredictable. When the legal situation surrounding that feature happened and it disappeared, I was furious. But you know what? I swallowed it. I dealt with it. I moved on because underneath all of that, I still loved 7 Days to Die. Then came the direction the game started taking with costumes and cosmetics. Whether this is because of partnerships, business decisions, or whatever direction The Fun Pimps have decided to take the game, I absolutely hate it. I didn't spend all these years supporting a brutal zombie survival game because I wanted to watch it slowly start feeling like another Fortnite-style costume showcase. What happened to the gritty survival game? What happened to the atmosphere? What happened to the game that made me think, "Holy crap, imagine what this could become someday"? Because this sure as hell isn't the direction I imagined when I supported it all those years ago. And now comes the situation involving **JaWoodle**. Based on what I've seen and heard about the dispute and legal action involving him, that was the final straw for me. If the circumstances are as they've been reported, I cannot support that behavior. JaWoodle has spent YEARS creating content around this game, entertaining players and helping keep people interested in 7 Days to Die. That makes **THREE STRIKES** for me. And you're out. I never thought I would reach the point where I would actually uninstall 7 Days to Die permanently. This wasn't some random game I bought six months ago. I've watched this thing grow for YEARS. I've watched it go from something tiny into something huge. I've invested thousands upon thousands of hours of entertainment, excitement, frustration, building, surviving, restarting worlds and waiting for updates. I was one of the people cheering this game on when it needed players cheering for it. And now I feel like the company I supported all those years ago isn't the same company anymore. Maybe The Fun Pimps won't care about losing one longtime player. Maybe this review disappears. Maybe nobody from the company ever reads a single word of it. But I'm writing it anyway because I want it on record that somebody who has supported this game **SINCE ALPHA 7** has finally had enough. And if this review gets removed, I'll repost it and number every attempt. I don't hate 7 Days to Die. That's actually what makes me so damn angry. **I LOVED THIS GAME.** Walking away from it feels like losing something I've had in my life for years. It honestly feels like having an awesome dog that you've loved forever and then one day that dog is just gone. There's an empty spot where something you genuinely enjoyed used to be. Except in this case, I'm watching something I loved turn into something I don't even recognize anymore. So congratulations, The Fun Pimps. You managed to take somebody who supported your game when you desperately needed players, somebody who promoted it, recommended it, defended it, played it for years and genuinely wanted to see it succeed... …and turn that person into somebody who doesn't even want the game installed on his computer anymore. **Alpha 7 player signing off.** **7 Days to Die: UNINSTALLED.** 🖕
Game devs do not care what the community wants and are suing a youtuber to cover up their own mistakes. Play a different zombie survival game like Vein
