Dusk
Dusk is a fast-paced FPS shooter that is probably a little harder and faster than most FPS games. I played on "I Can Take It" difficulty, but some of the hardest parts felt like I couldn't take it. There's a lot of variation in difficulty between levels. Some levels are full of traps and pits that kill you instantly, while others give you more room to breathe and maneuver. Navigation in some levels is also a bit confusing for my simple brain. So I prefer those levels where it's easier to spot the right way to go. Often I get so confused that I have no other option but to kill every enemy and then look around for the next place to go. But most levels are not too hard to navigate and there's not a single level that would be as confusing as some of the old Doom levels. The map design is really good. There's a lot of variety between the maps. Boss fights can also come completely unannounced, sometimes happening right when you least expect them. You can be exploring a map and suddenly find yourself in a boss fight without much warning, which can make the game feel surprisingly tense. What makes this FPS so good is that in some levels it feels like an arena FPS where you can actually maneuver around enemies. So it's not just corridor shooting, but there's still a lot of that included as well, and quite often I have to move backwards because I can't deal enough damage while the enemies are running towards me. The movement takes a bit of time to get used to because running feels quite grounded and you can easily fall into pits if you're not careful. The enemies can also take quite a lot of shots to kill. Even on "I Can Take It" difficulty some enemies can take four or five shots before they go down. When you combine that with close-quarter combat, it can create a pretty strong feeling of dread. You never really know what's waiting around the next corner. A powerful enemy can suddenly be right in your face before you have much time to react. There's no real weapon progression, which is a bit surprising. You start out each episode with sickles, but as you progress through the levels you gradually get access to a wide range of weapons. The downside is that you don't have much ammo for some of them, so you need to switch between weapons depending on the situation. Weapon switching feels nice and works well with the combat. Shotguns feel okay to use, but I actually prefer long-range weapons like the hunting rifle and crossbow the most. If there's something I don't like, then it's the melee combat. The game informs me that when I have over 50 morale, I can block by holding "aim". I'm like wtf is "aim", so in one level I just crouched in a hiding spot and killed all the enemies with sickles from there. The whole morale system feels like it's taken from a horror game and slapped into here without much effect on gameplay. And there are some power-up systems, like time slowdown and fire rate increase, that work okay, but picking up power-ups often feels quite random and I can't even tell from the power-up symbols what I'm even picking up. But the good part is that the game often gives you a short text that tells you what you picked up or what happened when you pressed a switch. The boss fights are a bit one-dimensional, but still kind of fun. The bosses have a health bar and they either shoot at you or come running towards you and basically you need to hit them until their health drops to zero. Some of them can be quite difficult, but there's not much more to the fights than avoiding their attacks and damaging them whenever you get the chance. There are no real boss phases or major changes during the fights, so it can sometimes feel like you're just spamming attacks a few dozen times until the boss finally dies. But overall, I like this game a lot. The combat feels fluid and it feels like you need more precision in your shots than in many other FPS shooters. The graphics are simple, but the atmosphere in this game is really good. It feels really creepy when enemies mumble and scream as they run towards you.
After being on my wishlist for years, finally bought this game. Really interesting game, it’s not too hard with saves. I recommend giving it a try upd: sometimes these horned motherduckers are creepy af
i didn't know they were allowed to make video games this good
The game is a shooter heavily inspired by Quake, and a bit by Doom and Heretic. But something feels missing, I just don't know how to put it into words. Anyway, if you're planning to play it, I highly recommend changing the default settings because the camera effects are terrible they actually made me nauseous at one point. Go to the settings, and under the 'Feels' tab, turn off these three: 'Weapon Sway', 'Camera Animations', and 'Vertical Flipping'. Also, under the 'Look' tab, tweak the weapon size and field of view. Personally, I found it much more comfortable to play this way
game is pretty fun but has some weird stuff that seems to be making fun of christians and i think im good on that but otherwise its a very fun game if that doesnt bother you but for me, its just unnecessary. jesus christ changed my life and why anyone would ever make fun of someone as loving, caring, selfless, compassionte, good, pure person as jesus christ is an absolute shame. no wonder it got good reviews, people love to hate god.
