Normal Golf Game

A very normal golf simulator. Hit anything. Shoot from anywhere. But remember: you’re not leaving until Luke Muscat himself (Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride) is satisfied.

  • Actually my favorite golf game of all time. After hundreds of hours in 2K im basically a god in that game even on the hardest settings. This game is more like golfing irl, i can hit great shots and with enough tries i can beat most challenges but stringing together consistent shots is super tough, this is perfect imo, hitting a pure shot feels so incredibly rewarding. My hope is endless amounts of dlc courses, challenges, and multi-player because i'll happily play this forever.

  • man i'm bummed about this one. the gameplay is SOOOO good, absolutely love everything involved with the golf part of the game. the part i'm bummed about is that the "intended" experience of the game putting you behind a bunch of "not playing golf" challenges. i don't wanna hit signs, i don't wanna find some mystery gong you hid somewhere. i just wanna play golf with weird controls. i did a round of 9 which was amazingly fun but it's only 9 holes.. if i wanna just play golf, i only have 9 holes available to me. still leaving a positive review because i ain't trying to drag the score down but the gimmicks were not what i wanted from this.

  • This is undeniably the most unique Solo Player Golf Game Experience in the past two decades. There's a ton of skill expression (a good difficulty curve) and unique challenges galore! It may be a Normal Golf Game, but you'll have more fun than you can possibly imagine.

  • I know it seems silly but this is the single most realistic golf game I have ever played. No other golf games make me feel the same as when I play golf in real life. The way you can top, slice, and hook the ball feels just as frustrating, and it feels just as good to make minute improvements to your game. The story is fun and a bit of a laugh and the bounties generally provide interesting challenges with a variety of difficulty levels, but at the end of the day I have had the most fun playing the 9 holes of golf. This will likely sit at the top of my games of this year.

Negative

  • Wish I could rate it neutral. It's fun when it's not intentionally trying to be frustrating. I've encountered several of the challenges where you're basically dependent on wind conditions to complete. Several others where there are targets you need to hit and there's no clear direction, eg. One of the bunker challenges, I hit 3/4 of the targets, hit balls forever and panned around in the camera to try to find the last one, couldn't, went to walk around to find it, accidentally stepped out of the tiny Bounty boundary and lost my progress for it. A little arrow over each target would be nice.

  • it's alright - very polished and charming, but low on certain types of content and definitely not for everyone. i just wish there was more variety of content in a more meaningful way that's tied closer to exploration rather than increasing difficulties and copy-paste missions like "hit the gong", "get par", "hit this on the green", and having more variety in holes and styles of challenges. it's certainly unique and offers a lot of novelty, the mechanic is itself is medium-hard to learn and "hard" to master; every club feels the way they should with how the shots work, but the actual incorporation of gameplay is a mixed bag with the course. for one, there's ONLY NINE HOLES TOTAL. some of the challenges are literally "get a par/birdie/etc on this specific hole" for every one of the nine holes. there's ~150 "challenges" (including those course specific ones), i'd say a majority are something like ''hit the green from this specific spot", "hit 3 shots on the green in a row", "nail this specific hole in one try - nightmare difficulty!"; it feels like you've pretty much gotten the gist of these bounty styles in the first two hours. i actually loved the writing above all else; if this game was more like the golf story RPG I would be all-in; however i imagine it's much harder to make new holes and content for a game like this than for a top down pixelated game. though i appreciate how the mechanics are designed, i don't think this sandbox gives enough variety/creative expression besides largely similar and repetitive missions. for me, highlights in this game are the novelties of specific bounties - one that's 'fruit ninja' themed, some of the 'logical puzzles', the tutorial's 'gongs', hitting 'enemies', and the meta use referencing unity / c# code for unlocks - there's a lot of personal touch that makes it feel equally cozy (ie the music boxes) and comedic. QoL features like teleporters and pressing a button to instantly reset your shot makes the complex mechanics more accessible. however, actual gameplay borders on grindy, especially on the non-easy difficulties; the "QE / AD" gimmick / mechanic seems unique at first but just ends up feeling as arbitrary as in-game wind - you can't predict it but you must always account for and attempt to control it by jiggling the Q/E A/D buttons, which just feel more like a CHORE / luck rather than skill after the first few hours - though I managed to control it enough to finish all 9 hole under par it just feels more annoying than rewarding - im ALWAYS waiting for winds and the angles to align regardless of how good my swing is, and most bounties revolve around being precise without much room for error. playing on 'easy' difficulty removes of the random deviations, which makes it 'easier' by removing the arbitrary balancing mechanic of Q/E A/D but just the swing alone is not enough of a mechanic to feel satisfying on its own for more than a few hours with the current variety of content. exploration is quite tedious since running around on foot is slow with a lot of invisible walls - it's great to limit number of bugs, but man it gets in the way of the flow. for a game trying to be more whimsical, a lot of holes and environments feel identical and don't have enough variety visually or mechanically; the number of 'novel' challenges are vastly outnumbered by precision/consistency/repeat challenges even though the novelty is where the game really shines. even the 'trivia' questions are boring, because they're mostly a disguised fetch quest/guess and check mechanic. there's some cute easter eggs/achievements and rewards for exploring, but I wish this was far more fleshed out. I have been somewhat following this game's development for a few months and wish the dev success, but find myself more bored after a few hours than satisfied. at the base, more shortcuts for navigation, faster move speed to make exploration less tedious. more variety in missions, like the curved putting. more diverse and interesting variety in environmental objects, like a golf cart to hit at, or an npc to hit, etc. at $10 base price, this is probably a good buy for someone who loves the mechanic itself a lot which you'll know within refund window of 2 hours for sure. but if you want more outside of the mechanics in terms of variety, look somewhere else. perhaps a stretch goal, but adding steam workshop and/or multiplayer (both probably big lifts) would contribute significantly to longevity but as of now I probably won't be coming back. again, great presentation and attention to detail, but feels more like a chore than a reward for a majority of the playthrough. I still recommend it to my friends who like golf / want challenging golf mechanics, but personally, I regret buying and putting time into this.

  • Why in the world does the wind change every 10 seconds? You literally cannot do anything consistently because you constantly have 20+ mph winds in every which way. I really enjoyed everything else, even if you can turn to to the side and slice every shot to bypass adjusting the club. But this one issue has made the game unfun for me; I want to play the way the game is intended to be played AND have a fun time.

  • I think is kind of dumb that when your hitting in a bunker you cant go through the ground with club like when your on grass. It should be the same as it is on the sand that is more realistic.
