Although the two side routes were subpar, AIR's main story is exceptionally emotional and absolutely worth it. Feelings of destiny, fate, loss, and revelation are the center of the writing, and this alone hits deep. I would consider this an essential story to any visual novel fan.
A story about summer, human connections and the lonely girl in the sky. One of the best Key titles. I loved its general themes of human connections (
and the AIR route, the "true ending". is absolutely soul-crushing, as per Key titles ;-;
) and its "small japanese town during summer" vibes are very on point. Also, the OST is so very good, I would on par with Clannad. Anyway, what creature is Potato, anyway?...
This is the least recognizable vn among 3 of the classic jun maeda vn's This visual novel features a lot of slice-of-life content, very enjoyable to read tho, made me sad a couple of times and put me into a trance several times. The last arc kinda dissapointed me, ending was very predictable and simple, not as unexpected like in Clannad. I think strongest side of AIR is the OST, definitely gonna remember it for a long time. Tori No Uta by Lia and Reason, This Place, Nocturne by Magome Togoshi are my favourites by far, it genuinely feels nostalgic, even tho I just finished the game.
Probably one of my top 5 visual novels of all time. Key has a certain magic about them that makes the characters in their games feel so real. I highly recommend the entire seasons trilogy (Kanon, Air, Clannad) but Air is probably the weakest of the three in my personal opinion. The characters each have their own distinct personalities and that aspect of the game is perfect, the only issue is that I really don't like the true ending. I personally feel it was lacking and unfulfilling after the time I spent to unlock it. All the same, enjoyed it a lot and really recommend it :)
