  • The most fun I've had with a war game in a long time, its like Arma, Rust, and PUBG had a baby. Definitely needs some balancing and other tweaks but for a first build early access its fantastic and I cant wait to see what they do with it in the future.

  • Game hits. It's the imo wet dream evolution of the Arma 3 KOTH mod. ♥♥♥♥ has me hooked, lotta stuff will balance out that are issues or annoying people. And 95% of the stuff I see is just people not knowing / being too lazy to do the counter to deal with the thing annoying them. Game runs fantastic, has its janky moments but are far inbetween, hackers few and far between / dealt with within seconds 98% of the time. For an early access game that is TRULY using it as a way to develop over time this will cook fantastic. If I'm putting these kinds of hours now, I can't wait to see what comes when they add systems like Skills or the gunsmith that they paid so much for that isn't a thing as of this review. Also great social game, theres toxic bad apples but the general community and vibe is that initial battlebit level of fun and dopamine with the homies. Join a Squad and committing meme plans and warcrimes with new homies is peak.

Negative

  • Totally unbalanced—the first two weeks were super cool, but after so many meta videos came out, the game was just ruined; it's not fun anymore. That is my personal experience.

  • AWFUL balancing. CONSTANT crypto bro talk from the CEO. NO balance changes until end of each season. Why they thought it was a good idea to have ammo types and tier 1-4 armors is beyond me; time to kill is all over. Don’t even get me started on vehicles and mortars. It’s rock paper scissors but only the unemployed sweats have the rock paper scissors.

  • This game is only fun if you can make money. I realize that this is the entire concept of the game, but it gets incredibly frustrating when a streak of deaths suddenly prevents you from playing the way that you enjoy. Let me give you an example. I enjoy playing as a sniper (Recon in the game). First off, the progression in this class being terrible, with the first sniper rifle being so bad in every aspect that its better off to just buy binocular or throw peas at the enemy. Second, your choices of secondary weapons to defend yourself are locked behind a different class (Medic), and even those are absolutely horrible to play with against higher tier armor which effectively negates their entire damage output. Lastly, a player is forced to use a rifle which is large enough to carry and wrap around their back, but they cannot carry and swap to a submachine gun, even if they purchase one in their inventory - this effectively makes attachment swapping and weapon swapping downright impossible, leaving you with no viable choice other than the intended sniper rifle + pistol combination. Practical difficulties aside, this is not even the worst part of playing recon. What is really frustrating, and namely the reason I am writing this review, is that it is clearly not profitable to fight as a sniper, as much as it is to passively spot targets. Indeed, the developers have managed to create a class that simply put is meant to stay out of combat and point at the rest of the players. The main reason being that sniping is not cost-effective (1200-2000$ maximum for a kill, while upwards of 200$ for spotting any target and bonuses if they die to any cause) to risk taking a shot. Not only will your location be instantly revealed, but the chances of getting a kill - even with a headshot - are incredibly slim due to armor absorbing an absurd amount of damage. This is a stark contrast to end-game gear (.50CAL rifle) which can effortlessly shred through, or effectively ignore, armor. Furthermore, in the off chance a player succeeds on a kill, the Death Cam will again reveal their position (unless its a headshot, but still I've made a point about that too). To add more cause to injury, Recon spotting gear is either bland, or actually unfair. Thermal spotting gear is not only bugged beyond comprehension (currently, it allows one to see all of the players, vehicles, and structures in the map even through terrain/walls) but it makes sneaking around impossible for everyone in the game that is not using a Ghillie suit (a late game, Recon-exclusive unlock). That said, a recon is, to my understanding, meant to play passively and rely on spotting to make a profit. If one chooses to risk using the Recon's weapon, then they'll probably end up dead if they engage anyone below 200-300m because scopes assault rifles are leagues more reliable in this range anyway. The result of those pointless endeavors is the player losing time spent sneaking around the map along with their money investment. This loop has left me broke multiple times in the time I've played this game. I've always managed to bounced back through different classes, mostly Medic, Support (delivering pallets), and assault which is much more reliable, but not even once with Recon. I have never felt that I've managed to make an impact as a Recon, nor do I recall ever making a worthwhile profit with this class. Out of sheer curiosity, I bought a thermal from a teammate and spent an entire game spotting from outside the Control zone with it. By the end of the game, I had made a profit of about 30,000$ and racked up "assists" (apparently, merely spotting is considered an assist in this game), over the course of 1,5 hours of idle sitting. I will emphasize again that this was done with the thermal binoculars and I could see every single entity in the game. I've been told that binoculars are there to aid in spotting, marking targets with a ping, and then engaging with a sniper from a distance. This only works if the target is standing still, and it is still overshadowed by the thermal which allows you to detect players through foliage, and then blindly fire at your ping hoping for a kill. This is an unfair advantage that prevents the enemy from ever getting a fighting chance. In the end, WARDOGS is a fun game only if you can make money. Reviving players is fun, and they are grateful, but infantry is ultimately too weak when compared to the chaos a single machine gun chopper can bring. Sniping is horrible and I regret buying this game with the impression that I'll have fun playing that way. Performance is also not great. My computer can comfortably run a wide range of AAA games, but this game is very, very far from optimized. If you are using anything hardware that was not made in the past 2-3 years, be prepared to play at 30-60 fps at best. Due to performance reasons, slow, tedious progression, low impact of infantry, poor planning for players that run out of money by the developers, an overly unfair gameplay for low-level compared to high-level players, cheaters, and an overall feeling of restraint when playing, I can not in good faith recommend this game.
