I played this after playing DOOM and I feel like a lore-accurate Doom Slayer going home to pet Daisy after a hard day of unleashing hell on Hell. Loved it. PS. the NPCs in this game have a very distinct Swedish accent despite speaking gibberish so fair warning for that jump scare.
TOEM is such a chill and relaxing little game. You just explore around, take photos, solve some simple puzzles, and help people out. It’s really easy to pick up and just enjoy without having to think too much. I really liked the cozy atmosphere and the laid-back gameplay. There’s no pressure or anything too difficult, so it’s a great game to play when you just want to relax and take your time exploring. It’s not a super long or complicated game, but I think that works perfectly for what it’s trying to be. Definitely a nice little game to chill with. 9/10. Recommended.
I ended up playing this while being sick and just wanted to play something light and turn my brain off. I'd say I picked out the right game for the job :) The game is very light and fun with a story that's to the point. You go from area to area with a camera and hikelady (that did get a giggle out of me) and you help out some unique characters in one big adventure. You've probably played at least one game like this in your life, you probably know what to expect. I managed to finish the game in around 5 and a half hours, basically in a singular sitting with some breaks in between to go get a drink, eat something, go to the bathroom or take medicine. Like I said, if you're just down, tired, sick or just want to go play a light, easy game like it's a warm meal after a long, cold day. Then I'd recommend getting TOEM if you see it on a good sale (as of right now it's 90% off, which I highly recommend grabbing if you have the chance).
TOEM is such a cute and chill game to get lost in. And there are no missable achievements so you can take your own time to play it.
On sale recommendation. TOEM is a cute, wonderful, but not perfect game. At it's core, it's essentially a 3-d version of "find the missing object" books. The puzzles aren't complicated, and the main selling point is getting immersed into the stylized cartoon world, which the devs do a superb job at crafting. It's simply a relaxing experience. I have some quibbles about the game, though. First, to 100% the game you need to do significant backtracking which already leaves a sour taste in my mouth. But the backtracking is made worse since travel isn't the smoothiest experience in the game. For instance, there's a level where you have to wait for a slow climbing animation to get between many sections. Similarly, you have to use awkardly mapped controls to move objects/animals using attachments to your camera. Second, the aural experience could be better. The worse offender is the pair of sneakers, the one item that speeds up your movment, which has a teeth-bothering squelch to them. Third, the game leans heavily into uncreative archetypes: here's the generic mad scientist, here's old fisherman with a story about a big fish, here's the intense newspaper editor barking orders. These quibbles aren't enough for me to warrant a negative review, though. I simply cannot recommend a game that costs $20 that only has 3-6 hours of gameplay. My personal standard is at least 1 hour of gameplay per dollar.
